Horizont Brewing

This American Stout offers a deep sensory experience, building on a foundation of roasted coffee beans inherited from its Morning Joe base. The aroma is dominated by dark chocolate and intense espresso, accented by a festive layer of winter spices that add warmth and complexity. Pours jet black with a persistent tan head. On the palate, the assertive bitterness of American hops provides a resinous counterpoint to the rich, malty sweetness. Notes of cinnamon and nutmeg weave through the charred grain character, leading to a dry, slightly spicy finish. The medium-full body and smooth alcohol warmth make it a quintessential seasonal sipper.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Features a large, persistent head of light tan to medium-brown foam with excellent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity roast with prominent notes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Moderate winter spices (cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg) blend with a medium-low resinous hop character. Clean fermentation with minimal fruity esters.

Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and dark roasted malts. Rich coffee flavor is balanced by moderate-high bitterness and a medium-low citrusy hop presence. The winter spice blend provides an earthy, warming mid-palate complexity. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering roasted grain and spicy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a somewhat creamy, smooth texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a slight lift. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth and a hint of roast-derived astringency.

A Stout a porter szárazabb, sötétebb, testesebb erősebb leszármazottja. Színben nagyon hasonlóak, a stoutokban azonban sokkal több a karamellizált pörkölt maláta és a kávés ízvilág, valamint édeskésebbek is. A stout szó első ismert használata egy 1677-ben keltezett, az Egerton Manuscripts-ban talált dokumentumban, amely a sör erősségére utal. 1721-ben használták először a porter nevet egy pörkölt malátával készült sötétbarna sör leírására. A porterek hatalmas népszerűsége miatt a sörfőzők többféle erősségben készítették őket. Az erősebb, jellemzően 7 vagy 8 %-os alkoholtartalmú söröket "stout porter"-nek nevezték, így a stout és a porter története és fejlődése összefonódott.
