Hop Hooligans Phi Phi - Gyle 1000
This celebratory Gyle 1000 Double IPA offers an intense sensory journey, balancing massive hop saturation with a velvety foundation of Extra Pale malt and Oats. The aroma is a complex tapestry of tropical passionfruit and dank resin, driven by Simcoe and Strata. On the palate, Idaho7 provides bright stone fruit and apricot notes, while Sabro Cryo introduces a unique hint of coconut and cream. Despite its 10% ABV, the Opshaug Kveik yeast ensures a clean fermentation, allowing the aggressive bitterness to remain smooth. It finishes dry with a lingering piney warmth, characteristic of a powerhouse Double IPA.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM) with a slight haze from the high protein content. It features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop character featuring prominent notes of passionfruit, pineapple, and apricot, layered over resinous pine and a hint of coconut. The malt is supportive and neutral with a faint grainy sweetness. Clean fermentation profile with a light, pleasant orange ester and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. An initial explosion of tropical and stone fruit flavors including mango, berry, and apricot. The bitterness is high but remarkably smooth, lacking any harshness. A lean, supportive malt backbone with a soft, creamy texture leads to a dry finish. The aftertaste is long and resinous, highlighting pine and citrus zest with a warming alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, almost creamy texture from the oats and dextrin. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but restrained alcohol warmth is present, without any hop-derived astringency.
