Hop Hooligans Nordic Rust
Nordic Rust is a powerhouse Baltic Porter that pushes boundaries with a 10% ABV profile. A deep foundation of Golden Promise and Rye malt provides a spicy, bready backbone, while DRC and Crystal Extra Dark contribute intense notes of dark fruit and molasses. Smooth roast emerges from Pale chocolate malts, harmonizing with a modern hop profile featuring Amarillo, Ekuanot, and Cascade. These hops introduce unexpected layers of citrus and resin against the style's traditional dark chocolate and licorice core. Fermented with NovaLager, the profile remains exceptionally clean, allowing the complex malt layers and vinous alcohol warmth to dominate the finish.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep mahogany highlights; crowned by a thick, persistent tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; rich layers of molasses, toffee, and dark chocolate blend with heavy notes of plum and raisin. Subtle spicy rye notes and a modern citrus-pine hop character from Amarillo and Cascade are present, though subordinate to the malt richness.
Taste. Rich and complex; initial malty sweetness of dark caramel and dried fruits gives way to smooth coffee and licorice flavors. The Rye malt provides a distinctive peppery spice that cuts through the sweetness. Hop bitterness is moderate-firm, balancing the high gravity. Finishes smooth and lingering with a vinous, dark chocolate aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and velvety; medium carbonation provides a mouth-filling texture without being heavy. Noticeable, well-integrated alcohol warmth reflects the high strength.
