A refreshing and inventive Gose, Ocean Bey showcases a vibrant interplay between tart fruit and savory minerals. The addition of sea buckthorn brings a bright, orange-hued acidity and citrusy berry notes that complement the clean lactic sourness of the style. A unique foundation of smoked salt provides a delicate, whispy bonfire nuance underneath the characteristic maritime salinity. The Pilsner and wheat malt base remains light and doughy, allowing the sharp pome fruit esters to shine. With its low alcohol content and brisk carbonation, this Gose finishes bone-dry and crisp, offering a complex yet highly sessionable coastal sensory experience.
Appearance. Pale yellow (3 SRM) with a moderate to heavy haze. It pours with a tall, effervescent white head that shows moderate retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a sharp lactic sourness that blends with distinctive sea buckthorn notes of tart orange and tropical berry. A subtle, clean smoke character emerges from the smoked salt, accompanied by a light bready wheat malt background and faint pome fruit esters.
Taste. The initial impression is bright and tart, with moderate lactic acidity carrying flavors of lemon and orange-like sea buckthorn. The malt is lightly doughy, quickly giving way to a noticeable but restrained salinity with a delicate smoky edge. Bitterness is nearly imperceptible, leading to a crisp, fully-attenuated, and refreshing dry finish.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied with high carbonation. The acidity provides a thinning effect, while the salt contributes a slightly tingly, mouthwatering sensation and a rounded finish. No alcohol warmth is present.
