The brewery was renamed Het Anker ("The Anchor") in 1901 and began producing "Emperor beer" after World War II. renamed "Gouden Carolus" after Charles V in the 1960s. Crowned World's Best Dark Ale at the 2012 World Beer Awards, Gouden Carolus Classic pours deep red and viscous with sweet notes of raisin, toffee and chocolate; a must-try for those who like their beer powerful and warming.
