Garage Project Alpha Waves
American IPA 7 º
Alpha Waves is a luminous California-style American IPA that radiates a bright, golden hue. This expression from Garage Project centers on a vibrant hop trio of Mosaic, Krush, and Simcoe, delivering a high-intensity sensory experience. The nose is a tropical deluge of mango and berry from the Mosaic, sharpened by Simcoe’s signature pine and citrus notes. On the palate, the hop-derived alpha acids provide a firm, clean bitterness that slices through a supportive base of clean, sweet malt. This balance creates a refreshing, dry-edged finish where stone fruit and grapefruit zest from the Krush and Mosaic hops linger long after the sip.
Appearance. Medium gold (6-7 SRM) with brilliant clarity and a bright, polished look. It features a medium-sized, white, persistent head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High-intensity hop aroma featuring prominent tropical fruits like mango and papaya, coupled with fresh citrus zest and a distinct resinous pine needle character. Malt is very low, clean, and grainy, providing a neutral backdrop for the hops with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. A hop-forward initial impression of pineapple and passionfruit, transitioning to a mid-palate of grapefruit and resinous pine. Low, clean, grainy malt flavor provides essential support without adding significant sweetness. Bitterness is firm and assertive but clean. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily hop texture. Moderate-high carbonation contributes to a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present, appropriate for its 7% ABV.

When we started out we were tiny. Garage Project wasn't even micro brewing… it was a truly nano brewery.
After nine years of working in breweries with equipment 100 times bigger it was quite a change to downsize to a fifty litre brew kit. But what we lacked in size we more than made up for in agility and the ability to experiment.
When you’re brewing on such a small scale you can afford to take risks. That suited us. We wanted to try something new.
Five years have passed and we’ve grown, but that same ethos still shapes how we do things at the Garage. Whether we’re brewing 50 litres or 2000, we’re still here to take some risks, to have a bit of fun and to try something new.
Way back in the day, when we were just starting out, we wrote a little blurb about each other to shed some light on who we are, and what lead us down the path of starting a brewery in Wellington, (if you’ve ever written your own bio, you’ll know how hard it can be!).
