De Glazen Toren Jan De Lichte

Belgian Blonde Ale 7 º 15 IBU
This elevated Witbier delivers a sophisticated sensory experience, leaning into its robust 7% ABV while maintaining the style’s hallmark refreshment. A foundation of unmalted wheat provides a soft, bready backdrop, punctuated by a distinctive aromatic profile of peppery coriander and zesty grapefruit. The traditional Belgian yeast contributes subtle esters that meld with a clean, herbal hop presence. It pours with a classic milky cloudiness and a dense white head, offering a creamy mouthfeel that transitions into a strikingly crisp, dry finish. It is a potent yet elegant expression of artisanal Belgian wheat beer tradition, balancing strength with drinkability.
Appearance. Pale straw color (3 SRM). Distinctly hazy to opaque with a milky, whitish-yellow shine from wheat starch and yeast. Features a dense, white, moussy head with very good retention and lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominated by bready maltiness and grainy wheat with hints of honey. Strong spicy-lemony coriander aromatics and a zesty grapefruit fruitiness. Low spicy-herbal hop notes provide a background layer without overshadowing the yeast and spice character.
Taste. Pleasant bready malt flavor followed by moderate zesty citrus and grapefruit-like fruitiness. Herbal-spicy notes of lemony coriander are well-integrated and balanced. Low hop bitterness supports a refreshingly crisp character. Finishes very dry and clean with no harsh or bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, light creaminess from the wheat. High carbonation creates a lively, effervescent character. Provides a refreshing finish with a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth reflecting its 7% ABV.

Glazen Toren Jan De Lichte

The name refers to local history. In the 18th century Jan De Lichte was the leader of an infamous gang of robbers in the region of Aalst – Zottegem. He was executed in Aalst at the age of 25.

Jan De Lichte is a wheat beer. But according to ancient tradition it has become a four grains beer. Barley and wheat are used of course, but there is also oats and buckwheat.

Jan De Lichte is the only Glazen Toren beer to which spices are added, following the Belgian tradition of wheat beer brewing. The use of coriander and curaçoa makes for the extremely fresh, citrus-like taste. The rather high alcohol percentage (7.5 %) indicates that it is more than just a thirst quencher.

Quite like Jan De Lichte himself some 250 years ago, the beer is not innocuous.
