This complex Blonde Ale showcases a refined sensory profile derived from its 14-month maturation in neutral French oak. The foundational blend of malted barley and raw wheat provides a soft, grainy canvas for the spontaneous fermentation character to shine. A brief two-week infusion of Timperley Early rhubarb contributes a delicate, garden-fresh tartness that avoids sharp acidity, while the subsequent rest in former raspberry ale barrels adds a subtle, nuanced layer of red fruit. The result is an elegant, highly structured golden ale where the bright orchard notes of the rhubarb and the mellowed wood influence create a sophisticated, refreshing finish.

Appearance. Light yellow to deep gold in color; slight haze consistent with the high raw wheat content and barrel aging. Features a low to medium white head with fair retention.

Aroma. Moderate intensity with a grainy, bready malt character. Low fruity esters are elevated by the fresh, floral scent of rhubarb and a faint hint of raspberry. A very light, neutral oak woodiness is present, though the fermentation remains remarkably clean with only a whisper of spicy hops.

Taste. Initial soft maltiness featuring flavors of bread and wheat. The Timperley Early rhubarb imparts a gentle, fresh fruit flavor rather than aggressive sourness. Bitterness is medium-low, allowing the subtle berry notes from the secondary barrel aging to emerge. Finishes medium-dry and crisp with a clean, lingering fruit impression.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. High carbonation provides a refreshing, effervescent mouthfeel. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated despite the 14-month aging process.

The beer was moved onto Timperley Early (not forced) rhubarb from the 2021 harvest. The vegetable was from Styan Family Produce in Worcestershire. It remained on rhubarb for two weeks only to preserve freshness and avoid excessive acidity pick-up. We returned the beer to freshly emptied barrels which contained mount ida (our raspberry beer) for 4 months. Finally we blended with two further base golden ale components before bottling.
