This West Coast-inspired American IPA from Cloudwater is a punchy, hop-forward experience that highlights the brewery’s precision with classic and modern hop varietals. The sensory journey begins with an intense bouquet of apricot marmalade and bright orange zest, underpinned by powerful, resinous pine notes. On the palate, a clean, grainy malt foundation allows the assertive, layered bitterness to shine without interference. The 7.5% ABV provides a subtle, integrated warmth that carries through to a remarkably long and dry finish. Each sip concludes with pithy citrus flavors and a lingering evergreen character, epitomizing the classic, resinous West Coast profile.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber (6-9 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent apricot marmalade, orange zest, and deep resinous pine. Low, clean, bready malt supports the hop profile. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Immediate hit of intense hop flavor mirroring the aroma with citrus zest and stone fruit. High bitterness provides a firm, layered structure. The malt flavor is low and grainy, providing just enough support for the aggressive hop character. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering, pithy orange and pine aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, crisp texture. Medium-high carbonation. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, with no hop-derived astringency.
