Chimay Cinq Cents (White)

Belgian Tripel 8 º 38 IBU
This classic Belgian Tripel presents a luminous golden hue with a characteristically fine, snowy head. The sensory profile is defined by a sophisticated bouquet of fresh hops and monastic yeast, featuring distinctive fruity notes of muscat grape, raisins, and ripe red apples. On the palate, a soft pilsner malt sweetness is quickly balanced by a firm hop bitterness and peppery yeast phenols. The interaction between the spicy hop character and the esters creates a complex, seamless profile. Highly effervescent and remarkably dry, this beer masks its strength with elegance, leaving a clean, lingering finish of fruit and spice.
Appearance. Golden (approximately 5–7 SRM) with a slightly hazy appearance and a delicate, snowy white, long-lasting rocky head that leaves characteristic lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex bouquet of muscat grapes, raisins, and ripe apples. Moderate spicy and peppery phenols integrate with a subtle floral, fresh hop character and light, grainy-sweet malt.
Taste. Initial impression of rounded malt sweetness quickly gives way to a firm bitterness. Flavors of muscat and raisin dominate the mid-palate, supported by spicy yeast esters. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering spicy-fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body that feels surprisingly light and effervescent due to high carbonation. Alcohol warmth is noticeable but soft and well-integrated, with no astringency.

Commercial Description:

Chimay White (now better known as Chimay Tripel) was created in 1966 by Brother Théodore. In contrast to the dark Chimay Red and Chimay Blue, the ‘White Chimay’ presents a dry and hoppy character. This Tripel really is a drinkable proof of the complex art of brewing. It has a mainly dry character, enhanced by a floral fruitiness that brings to mind memories of a fine dry white wine.

Chimay Wit, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast.

The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth.
