Patatus is a vibrant Hazy IPA defined by its incredibly juicy character and substantial grist. The enormous base of flaked oats and wheat creates a velvety, soft foundation that carries an intense citrus and tropical profile. Highlighting the hop selection, Motueka provides a bright, lime-forward zing, while Simcoe adds layers of passion fruit and grapefruit. This combination results in a remarkably opaque, fruit-forward experience that emphasizes aromatic depth over sharp bitterness. The finish is smooth and pillowy, showcasing the classic New England style personality with a refreshing, citrus-heavy punch and a clean, supportive fermentation profile.
Appearance. Straw to light amber (SRM 4-6) with a deep, opaque haze and a luminous shine. It supports a dense, rocky, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-driven bouquet featuring bright lime and lemon zest from Motueka, paired with passion fruit and a subtle citrusy resin from Simcoe. A background of bready, grainy malt from the wheat and oats provides a soft foundation with no caramel or toast.
Taste. Explodes with high fruity hop flavor, delivering a distinct lime quality from Motueka and tropical berry or grapefruit notes from Simcoe. Bitterness is moderate but masked by a full body and soft finish. The malt flavor is bready and neutral, leading into an off-dry, silky aftertaste devoid of any harsh hop burn.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and pillowy texture derived from the heavy use of oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate, and at 6.8% ABV, there is a gentle, well-integrated warmth with no astringency.
