Celestial Beerworks Beautiful Oblivion
This Double IPA presents a lush, saturated sensory experience, led by a potent trio of Idaho 7, Citra, and Mosaic hops. The aroma is a vibrant bouquet of light cantaloupe and ripe tropical fruit. On the palate, heavy mango flavors dominate, supported by succulent pineapple and subtle stone fruit undertones. Despite its significant strength, a distinct citrus pith bitterness provides necessary structure, cutting through the gentle sweetness on the backend for a beautifully balanced finish. The malt serves as a soft, bready foundation, allowing the complex interplay of modern American hops to remain the focal point of this intensely fruity and aromatic ale.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Opaque and hazy with a dense, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by tropical notes of mango and pineapple with a distinct melon-like cantaloupe character. Subtle stone fruit and citrus zest notes are supported by a neutral, grainy malt background.
Taste. Powerful hop flavors of mango and pineapple lead the initial impression. Mid-palate reveals stone fruit and a light sweetness. The finish is balanced by a moderate, resinous citrus pith bitterness. Alcohol is present but smooth, with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate carbonation. Notable but well-integrated alcohol warmth consistent with its strength. No harsh astringency.
