Buxton Brewery Sonrisa 2024 is a vibrant Fruit Beer designed with an uplifting sensory profile. At a sessionable 4.7% ABV, this beer bursts with the bright, zesty character of juicy clementines and lemons. The citrus integration creates a cheerful experience where the floral sweetness of clementine flesh meets the sharp, aromatic oils of lemon peel. Supported by a clean, crackery malt base, the fruit leads the way without becoming cloying or artificial. It is a light-bodied, highly effervescent ale that balances tart citrus notes with a crisp, dry finish, perfectly capturing the refreshing spirit of a breakfast-style beer.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3–5 SRM). Generally clear with a slight, natural haze from citrus oils. Moderate white head with fair retention and delicate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominated by fresh, zesty citrus including sweet, floral clementine and sharp lemon peel. Very low, clean malt aroma reminiscent of crackers or white bread. Hop aroma is very low to allow the fruit to remain the primary focus. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is zesty and bright. Natural, juicy flavors of clementine and lemon zest dominate the palate. The malt presence is low and grainy, providing a neutral backdrop. Hop bitterness is low to moderate, serving to balance the citrus acidity rather than provide herbal character. The finish is very dry and refreshing with a lingering, crisp citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with high carbonation that provides a prickly, refreshing sensation. No perceived alcohol warmth. Very low astringency, though the citrus zest provides a slight, pleasant tannic bite.
