This robust coffee porter, brewed in collaboration with Buxton Coffee Roasters, opens with an assertive, freshly ground espresso character that melds seamlessly into a dark malt backbone. Deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and toasted hazelnut from the base Porter provide a sturdy foundation for the vibrant, aromatic coffee infusion. The sensory experience is evocative of the Peak District’s rugged landscape, offering a comforting richness and a velvety texture. Hints of dark fruit and a gentle earthiness round out the profile, leading to a clean, roasted finish that balances subtle malt sweetness with a pleasant, lingering caffeinated bite. This Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer is both warming and highly drinkable.
Appearance. Deep ruby-black to opaque ebony (SRM 35-40). Pours with a thick, creamy, tan head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves consistent lacing. Clear on the edges with no significant haze.
Aroma. High intensity of freshly roasted coffee, reminiscent of dark roast espresso and cold brew. Supporting malt notes of bittersweet chocolate, dark crusty bread, and a hint of molasses. Very low earthy hop aroma. Clean fermentation profile with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by rich, roasted coffee and dark cocoa. The malt provides flavors of toasted grains and light caramel, balancing the coffee’s natural acidity. Moderate bitterness from both roasted malts and hops. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering coffee bean and dark chocolate aftertaste, free of harsh acridity.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift on the palate. Very light alcohol warmth appropriate for its 5.2% ABV. Low astringency from the roasted ingredients.
