This massive Imperial Stout offers an intense sensory journey, blending traditional roasted foundations with avant-garde additions. Built on a robust grain bill of Maris Otter, Dark Crystal, Caramalt, Chocolate Malt, and Roast Barley, it presents deep layers of espresso, dark chocolate, and subtle smoke. The infusion of cranberries provides a distinctive tart fruitiness, while jasmine adds a delicate, ethereal floral lift against the aggressive bitterness of Galena hops. Toasted French oak chips contribute structure and vanilla-scented wood tannins, harmonizing with the significant warmth of its high alcohol content to create a complex, opulent, and lingering finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Dense, deep tan head with moderate retention; high viscosity is evidenced by prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of charred grain, bittersweet chocolate, and espresso. Distinctive floral jasmine and tart cranberry esters mingle with vanilla and toasted wood from French oak. Noticeable vinous alcohol and earthy Galena hop notes.
Taste. Intense impact of dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt, supported by Maris Otter breadiness and Caramalt sweetness. A sharp cranberry tartness and floral jasmine lift provide contrast to the heavy roast. Firm bitterness from Galena hops and oak tannins balance the high residual sugar. The finish is long, warming, and bittersweet with lingering dark fruit.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, viscous, and chewy with a velvety texture. Low to moderate carbonation. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout. Slight oak-derived astringency on the finish.
