This American Pale Ale defies its ultra-low alcohol content with a bold sensory profile driven by a heavy-handed application of Centennial, Amarillo, Columbus, Cascade, and Simcoe hops. The aroma leads with intense notes of citrus zest, pine resin, and floral blossoms, supported by a surprising depth of toasted biscuit and light caramel from a complex grist of eight specialty malts. Despite its lightness, the palate delivers a firm, resinous bitterness that balances the delicate malt sweetness. The experience concludes with a clean, lingering hop presence, offering the aromatic complexity of a West Coast classic without the weight of alcohol.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (SRM 9-12). Off-white head with moderate retention and light lacing. Generally clear with a slight copper hue.
Aroma. Moderately high hop intensity featuring prominent grapefruit, pine, and orange peel from Centennial and Simcoe. Columbus provides a dank, earthy undertone, while Amarillo adds subtle stone fruit esters. Malt aroma is moderate, showing notes of toasted bread and faint nuttiness. Clean fermentation.
Taste. Immediate hit of hop-derived citrus and resinous pine. The bitterness is firm and assertive, leaning towards the dry side. Malt flavors of biscuit and light crystal malt provide a thin but necessary foundation. No significant alcohol presence. Finish is crisp, dry, and distinctly bitter with a lingering herbal hop note.
Mouthfeel. Light body, verging on thin due to the low gravity. Moderate to high carbonation provides a crisp, refreshing bite. No alcohol warmth. Smooth finish with a slight hop-derived astringency.

Our new Nanny State is 0.5% ABV and focuses on being a great drink as opposed to a great publicity ploy. This beer is now focussed on getting all that is good about BrewDog into a practically alcohol free format. It is a West Coast inspired pale ale with a difference! The beer has 45 IBUS and is brewed with centennial, amarillo, columbus, cascade and simcoe and intensively dry-hopped with centennial and amarillo. The backbone is provided by 8 different types of speciality malts with only 87 kilos of malt used in a 20HL batch (our Punk IPA uses 450 kilos in 20HL).
