This American Barleywine offers a profound sensory experience, defined by its intensive aging in Buffalo Trace and Barton 1792 bourbon barrels. The aroma is a luxurious tapestry of toasted malt, rich vanilla, and charred oak, interwoven with the distinct, earthy sweetness of maple syrup. On the palate, a bold malt backbone meets the spirituous complexity of the bourbon barrels, providing layers of caramel and dark sugar balanced by a firm, resinous hop bitterness. The high alcohol content delivers a sophisticated warmth that lingers alongside notes of maple and wood tannin, creating a viscous, contemplative sipper with remarkable depth and a velvety finish.

Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany (16–18 SRM) with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights; features a low, light tan head with modest retention and prominent legs on the glass wall.

Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of rich caramel and toasted bread are layered with vanilla, coconut, and bourbon notes from the Buffalo Trace and Barton 1792 barrels. Subtle resinous hop character and a distinct maple sweetness complement low fruity esters.

Taste. Initial malt sweetness leads to flavors of toffee and maple syrup, quickly followed by assertive bourbon-soaked oak and vanilla. The bitterness is firm and clean, balancing the dense malt and 12% ABV. The finish is long and warming, showing a complex interplay of spirituous alcohol and lingering wood-derived tannins.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture; carbonation is low to moderate, accompanied by a significant but smooth alcohol warmth without being solventy.

Blackout Visceral is een indrukwekkende barleywine van 12%, speciaal gebrouwen ter gelegenheid van het zesjarig jubileum van Blackout Brewing. Deze bijzondere creatie is met grote zorg gebrouwen en gerijpt bij Bere à la Cluj, een bekende naam in de ambachtelijke bierwereld.
Voor deze jubileumbieren werd gekozen voor een unieke rijping op Buffalo Trace en Barton 1792 bourbonvaten. Deze keuze zorgt voor een rijke, complexe smaakstructuur waarbij de krachtige tonen van bourbon prachtig samensmelten met de volle body van de barleywine. Daarnaast is er gebruikgemaakt van ahornsiroop, wat een subtiele zoetheid toevoegt en het geheel nog meer diepgang en gelaagdheid geeft.
In het glas presenteert Blackout Visceral zich met een diepe, robuuste kleur en een weelderige geur van vanille, karamel, eikenhout en warme bourbontonen. De smaak is intens en vol, met een perfecte balans tussen zoete, moutige toetsen en een krachtige alcoholwarmte. De rijping op vaten brengt daarnaast verfijnde hout- en vanilletonen naar voren, die mooi verweven zijn met de natuurlijke complexiteit van de barleywine.
