Megavoid - Bourbon BA is a monumental Imperial Stout that has been transformed by a 15-month rest in Maker's Mark bourbon barrels. The sensory profile is a complex tapestry of rich dark chocolate and espresso, interwoven with the signature Maker's Mark aromas of sweet vanilla, charred oak, and spicy caramel. Its texture is exceptionally viscous and chewy, carrying intense flavors of black currants, molasses, and toasted coconut derived from the massive 34P starting gravity. Despite the 15% ABV, the alcohol provides a smooth, integrated warmth rather than a sharp burn. The finish is remarkably long, echoing with notes of bittersweet cocoa and refined bourbon-soaked wood.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). A thin, dark tan head forms with low retention, leaving oily legs on the glass that signify the beer's immense viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity. A powerful bouquet of rich dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and molasses is primary. This is layered with prominent bourbon barrel character, contributing aromas of vanilla, toasted oak, and a spicy spirit kick. Esters of raisins and black currants add complexity, while hop character is negligible.
Taste. Initial impression of decadent chocolate ganache and espresso bean. Mid-palate, the barrel influence takes over with flavors of caramel, vanilla, and charred wood.
