Belhaven’s Scottish Oat Stout is a luxurious, layered interpretation of an Oatmeal Stout, utilizing a complex mash of roasted barley and oats alongside three distinct malts. The oats drive the beer's trademark depth, providing a hallmark silky and velvety texture. Sensory cues of intense black coffee and dark chocolate dominate the profile, creating a decadent experience that remains approachable. The interplay of roasted grains and a supportive malty sweetness results in a rich, full-flavored stout. With a well-integrated strength, it offers a lingering finish that balances bittersweet cocoa notes with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel and a subtle, toasty complexity.

Appearance. Opaque black in color (SRM 40) with a thick, creamy, and persistent tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, supported by a light grainy-nutty oatmeal scent and a mild, cream-like malty sweetness. Very low earthy hop aroma and minimal esters.

Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet dark chocolate and roasted barley, evolving into deep black coffee flavors. The oats provide a toasty, nutty mid-palate complexity. Medium bitterness balances the rich malt profile, leading to a lingering, medium-sweet finish with a clean roasted aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally smooth with a silky, velvety texture from the oatmeal. Medium carbonation and a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth given its strength.
