BAPBAP Faubourg
This German Pils expresses a refined balance between its rustic, unfiltered nature and traditional craftsmanship. The aroma is led by a complex bouquet of noble hops, featuring the spicy elegance of Saaz and Tettnang alongside the floral and herbal notes of Perle and Hersbrücker. This hop forwardness is supported by the delicate, doughy sweetness of French Pilsner malt, which provides a clean, cracker-like base. Long cold lagering results in a crisp, highly structured profile where a firm bitterness cuts through the initial malt sweetness, culminating in a bone-dry and remarkably refreshing finish that invites another sip.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3 SRM). While the style often emphasizes brilliance, this unfiltered version displays a very slight, attractive haze. It is topped by a dense, creamy, long-lasting white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop intensity with prominent spicy, herbal, and flowery notes from the noble hops. Beneath the hops lies a low but distinct grainy-sweet and doughy malt character from the French Pilsner malt, featuring hints of toasted crackers. The fermentation profile is clean and free of esters.
Taste. Initial impressions of light, doughy malt are quickly overtaken by a firm, crisp hop bitterness. Flavors of spicy herbs and dried flowers persist throughout the mid-palate. The balance is decisively bitter, leading into a very dry, clean finish with a lingering minerality and a touch of hop resin in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that provides a prickly, refreshing scrub on the tongue. It feels crisp and energetic, lacking any heavy sweetness or harshness, and shows no perceptible alcohol warmth.
