Imitations presents as a vibrant American IPA that masterfully balances a tropical bouquet with a crisp, bitter backbone. The aromatic profile is dominated by the complex interplay of Strata, Citra, and Sabro hops, offering an inviting blend of passion fruit, zesty grapefruit, and a distinct hint of creamy coconut. A clean, pale malt base provides a subtle, grainy support that allows these modern hop varieties to remain the focus. On the palate, the bitterness is firm yet refined, leading into a refreshing, dry finish. This beer showcases a contemporary take on the style, emphasizing bright fruit character and a smooth, drinkable texture.
Appearance. Deep gold color (approx. 7 SRM). Brilliantly clear to slightly hazy with a medium-sized, persistent white head that leaves delicate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Leading notes of passion fruit and strawberry from Strata, combined with the bright lime and grapefruit of Citra. A secondary layer of coconut and tropical pineapple from Sabro is evident. Low, clean, bready malt aroma in the background. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Assertive hop flavor mirrors the aroma, featuring mango, citrus zest, and a subtle creamy cedar note. Medium-high hop bitterness provides a sharp, clean counterpoint to the low grainy-sweet malt. Fermentation is clean with a very light ester profile. Finishes dry and hoppy with a lingering citrus bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Moderate carbonation. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, commensurate with its 6.5% ABV. No astringency.
