Sólo unas pocas cervecerías han conservado el estilo de la cerveza y desde hace unos 30 años está experimentando un renacimiento.
Para nuestra cerveza negra Aecht Schlenkerla Erle utilizamos una malta ahumada muy especial. Este no se seca sobre fuego de madera de haya, como suele ser el caso, sino sobre fuego de madera de aliso. La malta ahumada de aliso aporta a la cerveza un sabor ahumado fino y complejo, menos fuerte y picante que en nuestra cerveza ahumada clásica.

Un alto contenido de malta tostada proporciona un aroma tostado pronunciado y un color oscuro, casi negro.

Das Hellerbräu aus Bamberg ist eine der letzten Brauereien überhaupt, die ihre Gerste noch selbst darrt. Der Tradition ihrer Vorfahren folgend, räuchert das Team das gekeimte Getreide. Der dichte, aromatische Rauch entsteht durch die Verbrennung von Buchenholz und verleiht dem Malz eine herrliche Räuchernote, die in und um Bamberg herum gerne als Schinkengeschmack bezeichnet wird. Die meisten Biere im Hause Heller werden mit dieser besonderen Zutat gebraut.

Eine Ausnahme macht zum Beispiel ihr Schwarzbier: Der Klassiker längst vergangener Zeiten wird mit Malz gebraut, das nicht im Buchenholz-, sondern im Erlenholz-Rauch getrocknet wurde. Vor der industriellen Revolution war das Schwarzbier weit verbreitet; Jede Brauerei hatte ihre eigene Rezeptur. Die langsam einsetzende Massenproduktion stieß den Bierstil vom Sockel und ersetzte den charaktervollen Sud durch helle, mildere Biere. Heute erlebt das Schwarzbier ein Comeback und auch die Bamberger Rauchbierbrauerei beteiligt sich daran.

Das Aecht Schlenkerla Erle Schwarzbier hat einen milden Rauchgeschmack, der komplex und vielschichtig ist. Eine großzügige Portion geröstetes Malz sorgt für ein intensives Röstaroma, das hervorragend zur feinen Würze des Bieres passt. Mit 4,2 % Alkoholgehalt ist Erle etwas schlanker als die anderen Heller´schen Rauchbiere, steht ihnen in Sachen Geschmacksintensität aber um nichts nach.
