Na zuiver bronwater, het hoofdbestanddeel van bier, is gerst de belangrijkste grondstof.
Gerst moet vijf dagen kiemen in de mouterij waarna er mout overblijft.
De kleur van het mout en bijgevolg ook van het bier wordt bepaald door de temperatuur.
Duvel krijgt zijn typische bitterheid door verschillende aromatische Sloveense en Tsjechische hopsoorten toe te voegen.
Wij gebruiken enkel exclusieve hoppen die erkend zijn om hun constante,uitstekende kwaliteit.
Duvel gist voor een eerste keer in kuipen, bij 20 tot 26°C.
De brouwer gebruikt hiervoor zijn eigen kweekcultuur.
De oorspronkelijke giststam, die Albert Moortgat in de jaren 1920 zelf selecteerde, is afkomstig uit Schotland.
Na de rijping in de lagertanks, waar het bier wordt afgekoeld tot -2°C, is de drank klaar om te bottelen.
Door extra suikers en gist toe te voegen, hergist het bier opnieuw in de fles.
Dat gebeurt in de warme kelders (24°C) en duurt twee weken.
Nadien komt het bier terecht in koude kelders, waar het zes weken verder rijpt en stabiliseert.
Deze extra lange rijpingsperiode is uniek en draagt bij tot de verfijnde smaak en het zuivere aroma van Duvel.
Dankzij zijn verrassend hoog alcoholvolume (8,5 %), zijn enorme schuimkraag, fijne pareling en zijdezacht mondgevoel onderscheidt Duvel zich duidelijk van andere Belgische bieren.

Autrefois vendue sous le nom de Victory Ale, cette bière qui sera ensuite surnommé « le Diable en bouteille » finira par porter avec fierté ce sobriquet puisque le mot « Duvel » signifie « diable » en patois flamand !
Produite depuis 1918 par la Brasserie belge Moortgat, cette bière blonde est une belle réussite très bien équilibrée.
Visuellement, elle se présente avec une robe au bel éclat d’or et une belle mousse compacte, dense et très persistante qui laisse dans le verre de véritable rochers. Ce chapeau de mousse distille des arômes fruités et fleuris où les différents ingrédients qui la composent s’affirment sans se gêner.
On retrouve ce grand équilibre olfactif en bouche, avec des saveurs fruitées de houblon et de levure qui sont soutenu par une légère rondeur maltée. Les touches épicées de la levure relèvent l’ensemble, le tout accompagné d’une amertume franche et prononcé.
L’ensemble apparait extrêmement fruité quoi que faiblement sucré et l’harmonie des saveurs en fait oublier la présence de l’alcool dans cette bière qui titre tout de même à 8.5° !
Pour une dégustation de qualité, préférez le verre Duvel en forme de tulipe, si possible sec, et versez la bière lentement …

Apart from pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malt house, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and as a consequence also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel obtains its typical bitterness by adding various varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops that are renowned for their constant, outstanding quality.
Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Albert Moortgat himself selected in the 1920’s, originates from Scotland. After maturing in storage tanks in which the beer is cooled down to -2°C, the drink is ready for bottling. Thanks to the addition of extra sugars and yeast, the beer ferments again in the bottle. This occurs in warm cellars (24°C) and takes two weeks. Then the beer is moved to cold cellars, where it continues to mature and stabilise for a further six weeks. This extra long maturation period is unique and contributes to the refined flavour and pure taste of Duvel.
A team of beer specialists checks the process daily by means of taste analyses. It is only after 90 days, when it has achieved its rich range of flavours, that Duvel may leave the brewery.
Thanks to its surprisingly high alcohol content (8.5 %), enormous head, fine effervescence and silky smooth feel in the mouth, Duvel stands out clearly from other Belgian beers.

Apart from pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malt house, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and as a consequence also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel obtains its typical bitterness by adding various varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops that are renowned for their constant, outstanding quality.
Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Albert Moortgat himself selected in the 1920s, originates from Scotland. After maturing in storage tanks in which the beer is cooled down to -2°C, the drink is ready for bottling. Thanks to the addition of extra sugars and yeast, the beer ferments again in the bottle. This occurs in warm cellars (24°C) and takes two weeks. Then the beer is moved to cold cellars, where it continues to mature and stabilise for a further six weeks. This extra long maturation period is unique and contributes to the refined flavour and pure taste of Duvel.
A team of beer specialists checks the process daily by means of taste analyses. It is only after 90 days, when it has achieved its rich range of flavours, that Duvel may leave the brewery.
Thanks to its surprisingly high alcohol content (8.5 %), enormous head, fine effervescence and silky smooth feel in the mouth, Duvel stands out clearly from other Belgian beers.
