En Holanda podemos encontrar dos abadías trapenses donde elaboran cerveza, una es la abadía de Koningshoeven ( La Trappe) y otra la abadía de Maria Toevlucht (Zundert). En esta última es donde elaboran la cerveza Zundert 8, una cerveza trapense de alta fermentación.
Es una cerveza compleja y con sabores profundos. De esas cervezas que hay que tomarlas con tiempo para poder apreciar todos lo matices. Además, esta Zunder 8 con su refermentación en botella gana con el tiempo, descubriendo sabores y aromas que su versión más joven no puede aportar. La abadía se encuentra ubicada en una propiedad llamada kievitmoeren, que significa "humedal de las avefrías", de ahí el logotipo que utiliza esta cerveza. La cervecería trapense "De Kievit" es una de las doce cervecerías del mundo autorizadas a utilizar el logotipo "Producto auténtico trapense". La cerveza es elaborada por los propios monjes dentro de las paredes del monasterio, y tiene una producción limitada.
Una cerveza compleja y profunda
Vista: color ámbar claro, con espuma blanca, generosa y consistente de permanencia alta. Olfato: aroma a caramelo y fruta seca con notas de lúpulo y especias. Gusto: sabor dulce, con mezcla de malta y miel, afrutado y ligera sensación de nueces y lúpulo.
Sensación: cerveza de cuerpo medio, textura sedosa, carbonatación moderada. Ideal para acompañar con guisos o tablas de quesos.

Zundert è un birrificio trappista situato nell’omonimo comune nei pressi di Breda, in Olanda, poco distante dal confine con il Belgio. Il comune è noto per essere il paese natale di Van Gogh, oltre che essere la sede del secondo birrificio trappista dei Paesi Bassi, il nono in ordine di tempo.
Il birrificio si trova all’interno dell’Abbazia Maria Toevlucht, fondata nel 1899 con la costruzione di una cappella, che con il trascorrere del tempo divenne un edificio religioso abitato dai monaci. Nel 2013 si avvia la produzione brassicola sotto il marchio De Kievit, che commercializza due tipi di ale, che rimangono le due sole birre prodotte dal marchio trappista. L’attività produttiva viene condotta dai monaci del’abbazia, supportati da personale laico presente nell’impianto.
