Its clear orange appearance and latticework of lacing along the glass are as satisfying to behold as its finish on your palate. Marcus Aurelius, known as the “philosopher king, ”wielded two swords: duty to the republic and the pursuit of truth. e last of Rome's “five good emperors,” his rule oversaw times of peace, a tumultuous political landscape, and war at its extremities. His greatest legacy, ironically, was never meant to see the light of day. His personal journal, dubbed posthumously “Meditations,” is a central pillar of stoicism.
