La Guinness è una storica birra di tipo stout prodotta nella celebre fabbrica irlandese fondata a Dublino nel 1759 da Artur Guinness; Artur inzialmente produceva una birra bionda e leggera che diventò poi robusta e scura per far fronte alla concorrenza di una nuova birra londinese. Simbolo storico è l'arpa dorata che, insieme al quadrifoglio, rappresenta l'emblema dell'Irlanda ed è utilizzata come logo su tutta la produzione. Una birra che si avvale di acqua proveniente solo dalle Wicklow Mountains, orzo maltato, orzo non maltato torrefatto, luppolo e lievito e non è filtrata nè pastorizzata, sottoposta ad un processo di fermentazione che dura ben 10 giorni!
Si presenta nel bicchiere di colore nero che in controluce mostra riflessi rubino, con schiuma cremosa come un cappuccino. Al naso si presenta con note di caffè, liquirizia e cioccolato con sbuffi maltati quasi impertinenti. L'ingresso gustativo è possente, secco, intenso e deciso con tenore alcolico presente ma perfettamente integrato in una persistenza lunghissima di tostatura.
Ottima con preparazioni strutturate a base di carne di manzo ma si vocifera sia perfetta con le ostriche. Provare per credere.

LA HISTORIA DE LA CERVECERÍA
Fundada en 1759 por el cervecero irlandés Arthur Guinness, la cervecería del mismo nombre es mundialmente famosa por su emblemática Stout. Elaborada con granos de cebada tostados, tiene un color negro y una cabeza espesa y cremosa de color beige.
Guinness es una cerveza negra de alta fermentación, relativamente ligera, con notas de caramelo, chocolate y café. No hay ningún pub en Irlanda donde no la encuentres, y siempre estrictamente por pintas. Su tradición es tan antigua que forma parte de la historia de Irlanda.
FLOATING WIDGET (…o la famosa “bolita” de Guinness)
Seguro que ahora sabes más sobre la cerveza Guinness y su historia, pero ¿conoces el motivo de la famosa bolita en la lata? El “floating widget” es una bolita de plástico hueca de unos 3 cm de diámetro, algo más pequeña que una pelota de ping pong, que se mantiene en la lata para que la cerveza sea servida lo más parecido a como lo es en un bar. Esto hace que la Stout de Guinness sea muy diferente de otras cervezas irlandesas y de otras cervezas.
