Aventinus Eisbock. The worlds first Eisbock was born by chance. Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore.
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic “mistake” in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later. Prost!

First and foremost, the appearance of Meine Aventinus is striking. It pours a deep mahogany colour with a rich, creamy tan head that lingers for a while. The beer is slightly hazy, which is expected for a wheat beer, and it adds to the overall allure. Holding the glass up to the light reveals beautiful amber and ruby hues, enticing you to take your first sip.
The aroma is incredibly inviting and complex. Notes of banana and raisins come forward, followed by hints of cloves and a subtle spiciness. There is also a delicate sweetness that adds depth to the scent. The aroma alone is enough to get your taste buds excited for what’s to come.
Upon taking the first sip, I was immediately impressed by the beer’s velvety smooth texture. It coats the palate nicely, delivering a medium-bodied mouthfeel that is both satisfying and easy to drink.
