This Double IPA is an assertive sensory journey defined by an aggressive 35g/l hopping rate. The utilization of Idaho 7 Cryo hops delivers a concentrated burst of herbal complexity and zesty pine, while the massive Citra additions provide a dominant, bright citrus core of grapefruit and lime. Pouring a clear gold with a persistent white head, the beer opens with high-intensity tropical aromas. The palate features a clean, supportive malt backbone that allows the massive hop profile to remain the focus. At 8% ABV, it offers a smooth, integrated warming sensation that complements its dry, lingering bitter finish, resulting in a punchy yet drinkable modern ale.
Appearance. Gold to light orange (approx. 7 SRM) with good clarity, though a slight hop haze is present. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent citrus, mango, and grapefruit from the Citra, alongside distinct herbal, resinous, and piney notes from the Idaho 7. Background malt is clean and neutral with a grainy character. Fermentation is clean with very light fruity esters and a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of complex hop flavors reflecting the citrus and herbal aroma. Bitterness is moderately high but clean and devoid of harshness. The malt character is low and unobtrusive, providing a soft, cracker-like support. Finishes dry to medium-dry with a lingering, resinous hop bitterness and a clean, smooth alcohol flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture and medium-high carbonation. Displays a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth appropriate for its 8% strength. No hop-derived astringency despite the high hopping rate.
