This Baltic Porter presents an imposing sensory profile, merging deep malt complexity with the aggressive, medicinal character of Islay whisky barrels. A robust foundation of Munich Type I and Pilsner malts creates a rich, bready core, while light and dark chocolate malts contribute layered notes of cocoa and espresso. The Islay aging imparts unmistakable aromas of peat smoke, iodine, and sea salt, which intertwine with the dark fruit esters typical of the style. Polish EXP. 2.0 hops provide a clean, structural bitterness. It finishes with a profound, integrated alcohol warmth, leaving lingering impressions of dried plums and smoky oak, perfectly balancing the high gravity extract.
Appearance. Deep, opaque dark brown with dark ruby highlights. Thick, persistent tan head with fine lacing; clear despite the intense depth of color.
Aroma. High intensity with prominent Islay whisky notes of earthy peat, wood smoke, and medicinal iodine. Underlying rich maltiness provides scents of dark chocolate, toasted bread, and molasses, complemented by moderate dark fruit esters resembling prunes and raisins.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness of toffee and caramel leads into deep flavors of dark chocolate and coffee. The mid-palate is dominated by Islay barrel influence, including peat smoke and charred oak. Clean bitterness from Polish hops provides balance. The finish is long and complex, transitioning from malty-sweet to a dry, roasted aftertaste with lingering notes of dried fruit and whisky.
