Wormtown Brewery Be Hoppy
Be Hoppy is a quintessential American IPA that pays homage to the classic West Coast profile. The experience is defined by a vibrant hop-forward character, where high-intensity aromatics of grapefruit zest and resinous pine lead the charge. These bold notes are supported by a clean, lean malt backbone that provides a subtle toasted foundation without introducing heavy sweetness. On the palate, the hop intensity remains dominant, offering sharp citrus and forest floor flavors that culminate in a firm, crisp bitterness. This balance ensures a dry, refreshing finish that perfectly highlights the classic American hop profile while maintaining high drinkability.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber in color (approx. 8 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent off-white head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit peel, lemon zest, and fresh pine resin. A low, clean, grainy malt sweetness provides a supportive background. The fermentation profile is exceptionally clean with no detectable esters.
Taste. Initial impression is decidedly hop-forward and bitter. Flavors of citrus oil and resinous pine are front and center, backed by a medium-low, clean maltiness with hints of light toast. Bitterness is medium-high to high but stays clean and integrated. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering hoppy aftertaste of citrus pith.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly resinous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively and refreshing mouth-cleansing effect. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its strength.
