This festive American Stout is an indulgent, sensory-rich experience that evokes the warmth of a holiday gathering. Deep aromas of bittersweet chocolate and smooth vanilla are elevated by the distinct, spirited presence of brandy and festive spices. On the palate, a lush, full body is defined by the creamy sweetness of lactose and condensed milk, which softens the aggressive roasted malt character typical of the style. Warming notes of cinnamon and nutmeg provide a spicy counterpoint to the underlying coffee-like bitterness. It concludes with a lingering, decadent finish where the alcohol heat is masterfully integrated, leaving a complex trail of spiced milk and dark malt.
Appearance. Jet black (40 SRM) and opaque. Pours with a large, persistent, light tan to tan head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent dark chocolate and roasted coffee malt aromas are layered with rich vanilla and spicy nutmeg and cinnamon. Distinct vinous and oaky notes from the brandy are evident, alongside a sweet, milky quality. Low resinous hop aroma is present but secondary to the spice and roast.
Taste. Initial impression is thick and dessert-like. Moderate-high roasted flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso are balanced by the heavy sweetness of lactose and condensed milk. The mid-palate reveals prominent cinnamon and nutmeg. Hop bitterness is medium-high but significantly softened by the residual sugars. The finish is long and sweet with a noticeable brandy-driven warmth and a touch of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a notably creamy, silken texture from the lactose and condensed milk. Carbonation is moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with the high gravity, without being harsh or astringent.

Dialing up the angst, we’ve gone full Cobain on a grungy, post-metal, American Stout. Unlike its soft-punk, Black IPA cousin, we wanted to bring the black malt grunge to the dank tones of American hops. The raw distortion of Citra, Idaho LUPO, Mosaic, Cashmere, Cascade, Sabro and Simcoe were fused to a complex malt riff of caramel, biscuit and chocolate malts. It’s gutsy, complex, bitter, stouty and hoppy. Citrus, pine, resin and a touch of stonefruit elicit the loathsome introspection of biscuit, caramel and chocolate malts. Once discordant, now its own genre, where frustration has found a pressure release, exposing an existential dissatisfaction of the banality of it all, inextricably fused to a subconscious undertone of futility.
