Joyride is an intense, high-gravity Double IPA that showcases a dense hop jungle. The sensory experience is driven by Cryo-Citra, which contributes punchy passionfruit and blackcurrant notes through biotransformation, while Peacharine and Cryo-Wai-iti provide layers of stonefruit and tropical depth. Cryo-Motueka adds a signature New Zealand gooseberry character and a soft lime citrus undercurrent that balances the rich base. An overloaded addition of oats and spelt creates a remarkably creamy structure and smooth mouthfeel, supporting the 10.5% ABV without allowing the alcohol to dominate. The result is a vibrant, fruit-forward powerhouse that remains surprisingly drinkable despite its massive scale.
Appearance. SRM 6-8. Deep gold to light orange with a persistent, dense white head that leaves significant lacing. While the style allows for clarity, the heavy use of oats and spelt results in a distinct, attractive haze.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma featuring prominent tropical fruit, passionfruit, and stonefruit. Complex notes of blackcurrant and zesty lime are supported by a faint, grainy, and soft malt presence from the oats. Fermentation is clean with a light, smooth alcohol note.
Taste. A massive collision of hop flavors, ranging from ripe peach and gooseberry to sharp lime and tropical punch. Bitterness is firm and assertive but lacks harshness, smoothed over by a soft malt backbone. The finish is medium-dry with a long, lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste. A clean, warming alcohol presence is evident but well-integrated.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and velvet-like texture due to the oat and spelt content. Carbonation is moderate. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, without any harsh hop-derived astringency.
