Simple Things is a quintessential Hazy IPA that showcases the harmonious marriage of Citra and Simcoe hops. Poured with a signature East Coast opacity, it releases an intense bouquet of zesty citrus, ripe apricot, and the distinct, deep berry notes of blackcurrant. The aromatic profile is underpinned by a subtle, bready malt base that allows the hops to remain the primary focus. On the palate, the experience is defined by its soft, fluffy mouthfeel and restrained bitterness, characteristic of the style. The finish is smooth and juicy, leaving a lingering impression of tropical stone fruit and bright, resinous citrus.
Appearance. Straw to luminous light amber with a deep, opaque haze that gives the liquid a vibrant shine. It is topped by a dense, rocky, white meringue-like head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit and lime from Citra, alongside the earthy blackcurrant and stone fruit qualities of Simcoe. A background of clean, grainy, and lightly bready malt is present, while fermentation esters provide a subtle, supportive fruity layer.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical and citrus fruit, specifically apricot and tangelo. The Simcoe adds a complex layer of dark berry and a hint of pine. Malt flavor is low but provides a soft, bready foundation. Bitterness is medium-low, smoothly integrated and never harsh, leading into a soft, off-dry finish with a clean, fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable softness and fluffy, pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. The beer is exceptionally smooth with no astringency or harshness, and the alcohol provides a very light, well-integrated warmth.
