This Black IPA offers a striking sensory juxtaposition, layering intense modern hop character over a dark, smooth malt foundation. The dehusked Carafa III malt provides a gentle, restrained roastiness reminiscent of dark cocoa, while oat malt lends a silky textural depth to the body. On the nose and palate, Waimea delivers clean pine and citrus, while Cryo Mosaic adds vibrant tropical berry notes. Cryo Loral contributes delicate floral accents, uniquely complemented by the experimental Cryo HBC 472, which introduces subtle woody and coconut-like nuances. Finishing crisp and dry, it maintains the punchy bitterness of a Specialty IPA without any harsh, ashy astringency.

Appearance. SRM 35-40. Opaque deep black color. Unfined, showing a slight haze under a persistent, creamy light tan head with excellent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma with complex layers of tropical berry, floral blossom, and resinous pine. Distinctive but subtle woody and coconut-like notes are present. Malt character is low to moderate, offering restrained dark chocolate and toasted bread without acridity. Clean fermentation profile.

Taste. High hop flavor echoing the aroma's tropical, citrus, and pine character. Firm, assertive bitterness is balanced by a smooth, medium-low malt presence of cocoa and light coffee. The roast is polished and never burnt or ashy. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering resinous and slightly fruity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel attributed to the oat malt. Moderate carbonation. Very light alcohol warmth. No astringency from the roasted grains.
