Whitewater Hoppelhammer
Hoppelhammer is a robust American IPA that celebrates the resinous intensity of Pacific Northwest hops. This triple-hopped ale prominently features Chinook, which delivers foundational notes of pungent pine and grapefruit, while the addition of Cluster introduces a distinctive spicy and floral complexity. The sensory profile is further enriched by deep fruit flavors that sit atop a clean, supportive malt base. This combination results in a balanced yet hop-forward experience, characterized by a bold, resinous finish and a clean fermentation profile. It is a quintessential example of the style, offering a harmonious blend of classic evergreen bitterness and modern fruity aromatics.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (approx. 9 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a medium-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent resinous pine and grapefruit notes from the Chinook, alongside a spicy and slightly herbal quality from the Cluster. Low grainy-sweet malt provides a subtle background, while fermentation remains clean with very light stone fruit esters.
Taste. A hop-forward initial impression with flavors of citrus pith, resin, and black pepper. Medium-high bitterness is firm but smooth. The malt provides a low to medium-low supportive character of light caramel and toasted bread. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the hop resins. Medium-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at the finish.
