This Kentucky Bourbon barrel-aged English Barley Wine offers an opulent sensory journey, elevated by a unique buckwheat base. The aroma is intensely complex, layering rich honey and deep caramel with distinct notes of fig jam and vanilla. Subtle resinous hop character and hints of exotic fruit provide a counterpoint to the decadent malt profile. On the palate, it is full and chewy, delivering concentrated flavors of dried dark fruits and toasted oak. The significant alcohol is expertly integrated, providing a smooth, velvety warmth that leads into a persistent, lingering finish of honeyed sweetness and refined bourbon character.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with ruby highlights and excellent clarity. Pours with a thin, creamy off-white head that fades to a persistent collar, leaving significant oily legs on the glass indicative of high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply layered. Dominated by rich caramel, honey, and toasted grain, complemented by prominent notes of fig jam, dates, and raisins. Kentucky Bourbon barrel aging contributes clear vanilla and oak, while subtle resinous hops provide further complexity.
Taste. A massive initial impression of malty sweetness, featuring layers of toffee, honey, and dark bread. Flavors of dried figs and black cherries are prominent, balanced by a firm but smooth hop bitterness. Barrel-derived vanilla and charred oak integrate seamlessly, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering notes of dark fruit and spirits.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the high ABV without being harsh or fusel.
