Westerham Brewery Company Ltd. Audit Ale

Strong Ale 6.2 º
This award-winning British Strong Ale offers a rich, historical sensory experience rooted in a 1938 recipe from the Black Eagle Brewery. A deep amber hue sets the stage for a complex malt profile driven by Pale and Crystal malts, yielding aromas of toasted toffee, biscuit, and dark marmalade. The substantial addition of Kent Goldings hops provides a quintessential English character, imparting earthy, floral, and mildly spicy notes that balance the malty sweetness. At 6.2% ABV, it delivers a smooth, warming sensation on the palate, finishing with a refined, lingering bitterness and notes of dried plum and peppery resin.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (14–18 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a moderate, light tan head that demonstrates good retention and fine-beaded lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with a dominant malt-forward profile of caramel, toasted nuts, and toffee. Pronounced earthy, floral, and slightly herbal hop character from Kent Goldings. Moderate fruity esters suggesting dried apricot and golden raisin, with a clean, subtle alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, bready sweetness and toffee. Malt flavors of nutty Crystal malt and honeyed biscuit are balanced by a firm, spicy, and earthy hop bitterness. Fruit esters contribute notes of orange marmalade and plum. The finish is medium-dry and lingering, with a harmonious blend of malt richness and hop resin.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full, chewy body with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that is pleasant rather than hot.
