West Kill Brewing’s False Summit reimagines the classic American Lager through a rustic, mountain lager lens. This hoppy lager is elevated by a purposeful dry-hop addition of Saaz and Crystal hops, delivering a fragrance of spicy herbs and soft, woodsy wildflowers atop a clean, grainy malt base. Despite its approachable 5.8% ABV, the profile remains exceptionally crisp and refreshing. The palate is defined by a delicate balance of cracker-like sweetness and a refined, floral bitterness that lifts the finish. It is a vibrant, modern take on a traditional style, pairing the effortless drinkability of a lager with a sophisticated, aromatic hop complexity.
Appearance.Very pale straw to light gold (3 SRM). Features a brilliant clarity and is topped with a white, frothy head that exhibits moderate retention and light lacing.
Aroma.Moderate intensity featuring a clean, neutral fermentation profile. Low malt notes of fresh grain and saltine crackers are complemented by a refined hop character of spicy herbs from the Saaz and a touch of woody floral sweetness from the Crystal dry-hop.
Taste. The initial impression is crisp and dry, followed by low grainy-sweet malt flavors. Hop flavor is more prominent than a standard example, displaying herbal spice and a soft floral quality. Bitterness is low to medium-low, providing just enough structure to balance the light malt. The finish is clean, dry, and refreshing with a short, spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with high carbonation that produces a crisp, refreshing carbonic bite. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated. Smooth texture with no astringency.
