Waitoa Sunsetter is a vibrant Hazy IPA that captures the essence of a tropical evening through a focused lens of New Zealand and American hop craft. The sensory experience is defined by an intense burst of Riwaka and Mosaic hops, delivering a complex bouquet of passionfruit, pungent citrus, and ripe mango. These hops shine against a background of soft, bready malt, providing a juicy profile without lingering harshness. A silky smooth finish enhances the drinkability, while the moderate carbonation carries fruity esters through each sip. It is an expressive beer, balancing high hop saturation with a gentle, pillowy texture.
Appearance. Straw to light amber (4-6 SRM) with a characteristic opaque haze providing a vibrant shine. Features a rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical fruit and citrus. Specific notes of grapefruit and slight diesel from Riwaka mingle with the blueberry and stone fruit notes of Mosaic. Background malt is clean, bready, and neutral, with a light fruity fermentation ester profile.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor featuring mango, passionfruit, and citrus. The Riwaka provides a bright lime-like edge while Mosaic adds depth with hints of berry. Low to medium-high bitterness that is perceived as soft and non-lingering. Malt is bready and supportive, leading to an off-dry, juicy finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a silky, soft, and pillowy texture. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated at 6.3% ABV. Completely free of harshness or hop astringency.
