Waitoa Off-piste is a bold American IPA that highlights the distinctive character of New Zealand-grown Nelson Sauvin and Motueka hops. The sensory profile is dominated by Nelson Sauvin’s signature crushed gooseberry and white wine notes, complemented by the zesty lime and tropical fruit punch of Motueka. Fermented at cooler temperatures to ensure a remarkably clean and crisp finish, this brew presents a bright hop-forward experience with a lean malt backbone. It delivers a refreshing, dry snap on the palate, perfectly balancing its moderate bitterness with a vibrant, fruit-laden aromatic intensity that remains refreshing throughout the glass.
Appearance. Pale to medium gold (approx. 6 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a dense, persistent white head that leaves moderate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent white wine grapes, gooseberry, and passion fruit from Nelson Sauvin, paired with distinct fresh lime zest and tropical melon notes from Motueka. A low, clean, grainy-sweet malt scent supports the hops. Fermentation is very clean with no notable esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of citrus and tropical fruit. Strong flavors of lime, grapefruit, and crushed grapes lead the profile. Malt is low and neutral, providing a grainy platform for the hops without adding sweetness. Medium-high bitterness is firm but clean. The finish is very dry and refreshing with a lingering lime and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a crisp, smooth texture. High carbonation enhances the refreshing quality. No astringency; a very subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
