Waitoa Citranova is a vibrant showcase of the Citra hop, delivering a big, bright sensory profile true to the American IPA style. This single-hop expression explodes with an intense bouquet of pink grapefruit and succulent tropical fruits, layered with a delicate hint of ripe peach. Underneath the fruit-forward aromatics, a steady pulse of resinous pine provides a classic West Coast foundation. At 6% ABV, the beer maintains a lean, grainy malt backbone that allows the firm bitterness to take center stage. Each sip concludes with a clean, dry finish, leaving a lingering impression of citrus zest and herbal forest notes that invite the next refreshing taste.
Appearance. Radiant medium gold (approx. 8 SRM) with excellent clarity and brilliant luster. It supports a frothy, persistent off-white head with good retention that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma dominated by grapefruit and tropical fruit. Secondary notes of ripe peach and a clean, resinous pine undertone are prominent. Low, clean grainy maltiness provides a neutral base, while the fermentation profile remains exceptionally clean with negligible yeast-derived esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean bitterness that remains firm throughout. High hop flavors mirror the aroma, featuring bold grapefruit, mango, and a touch of stone fruit. The malt character is low and crackery, providing just enough support without adding sweetness. The balance is decidedly hop-forward, finishing very dry and crisp with a lingering citrus and piney aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the bright, refreshing character of the hops. There is no perceived astringency or harshness, and alcohol warmth is extremely subtle and well-integrated.
