Wave Decay is a vibrant American IPA that exemplifies the resinous and citrus-forward profile of the Pacific Northwest. The sensory experience is led by a bold interplay of Simcoe, Columbus, and Strata hops, delivering intense aromas of sweet ruby red grapefruit and pungent, dank resin. A clean, crackery malt base supports a palate defined by citrusy pine tips and a deep, conifer-like resinous quality. The beer finishes crisp and remarkably dry with a firm, lingering bitterness that cleanses the palate. Its medium-light body and lively carbonation accentuate the vibrant hop oils, creating a refreshing yet complex expression of the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (approx. 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, long-lasting white head that leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by Simcoe's pine and resin, complemented by Columbus's dank earthiness. Bright, sweet ruby red grapefruit and subtle tropical berry notes from Strata emerge as it warms. Malt is low and clean, reminiscent of fresh grain, with a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward and assertively bitter. Flavors of citrusy pine tips and resinous conifer are prominent. A lean, lightly toasted malt character provides enough support to prevent harshness without adding sweetness. The bitterness is medium-high to high but stays clean, leading into a very dry, crisp finish with a lingering grapefruit pith aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly resinous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp, refreshing bite. Very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
