Volders Bieren Joske is a vibrant Belgian Tripel that beautifully marries tradition with a touch of modern hop character. Built upon a grainy-sweet base of Pilsner malt, this golden ale presents a complex yeast profile of spicy, peppery phenols and bright citrus esters. The classic herbal and rustic spice of Saaz hops establishes a firm, traditional foundation, while a late addition of Cascade hops layers in refreshing aromas of fresh lemon and grapefruit. With a deceptive strength of 8.5% ABV, it delivers a clean, effervescent, and remarkably dry finish that masks its warming power beneath a lively sparkle.
Appearance. Deep yellow to pale gold (approx 5-6 SRM) with brilliant clarity and highly active effervescence. Topped by a long-lasting, dense, rocky white head that leaves beautiful Belgian lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High aroma intensity featuring a complex bouquet of peppery and clove-like phenols, coupled with prominent citrusy esters of orange and grapefruit, the latter enhanced by late-addition Cascade hops. A supportive, low rustic herbal note from Saaz hops anchors the aroma, sitting atop a clean, slightly grainy Pilsner malt backbone with a soft, well-integrated hint of warm alcohol.
Taste. Begins with a brief, soft impression of grain-sweet Pilsner malt before transitioning into dominant spicy, peppery yeast phenols and bright citrus fruit flavors of lemon and grapefruit. A firm bitterness of medium-high intensity emerges to emphasize an incredibly dry, clean finish. The aftertaste is long and drying, characterized by lingering herbal hop notes and zesty citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, defying its high gravity. Very high carbonation creates a highly effervescent, sparkling mouthfeel. Alcohol warmth is gentle and incredibly well-disguised, presenting a smooth, soft, and slightly warming finish without any harshness or hotness.
