American Pale Ale 5.6 º
This collaborative American Pale Ale delivers a vibrant sensory profile centered on the classic character of Cascade hops. A luminous golden pour leads into an aromatic bouquet of bright citrus zest and resinous pine, supported by a foundational sweetness from the blend of Pale, Cara, and Crystal malts. On the palate, the malt provides a smooth, bready backbone with a hint of toasted caramel, which perfectly balances the firm, solid bitterness. The experience concludes with a crisp and exceptionally dry finish, leaving a moreish trail of grapefruit peel and woodsy pine needles that invites the next sip.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber in color (8-10 SRM). Generally quite clear with a moderately large white head that shows good retention and leaves fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop aroma featuring the classic citrus and pine character of Cascade hops. A low to moderate malt presence provides notes of toasted bread and a subtle caramel sweetness from the Cara and Crystal malts. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Moderate to high hop flavor follows the aroma with notes of grapefruit and resin. A balanced malt sweetness consisting of cracker and light toffee provides a supportive base. Bitterness is moderate to high but remains clean. The finish is dry and crisp, with lingering citrus and pine in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, contributing to a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.

VOCATION -John Hickling worked in IT for a bank. The money was good, but he had a desire to create something more than spreadsheets. As a beer fanatic, he decided to try brewing his own. He built a tiny brewery in his kitchen with plastic buckets and parts from a hardware store. Brewing beer was a revelation. His friends agreed the beer he made at home was better than they could buy in the pub, and he dreamed of turning his passion into a business.
Inspired, he quit his job, sold his house and co-founded his first brewery in 2008. The awards soon rolled in, and the brewery was a storming success. After five years, he felt he had taken the business as far as he could. He sold his stake in the brewery, and started thinking about new projects. But he had a problem: he desperately missed brewing. It took selling his first brewery for him to realise that brewing was never just a job, it was his vocation.
He decided to start from scratch and apply all the accumulated knowledge he’d gained at his first brewery into something and somewhere new. In 2015 Vocation Brewery was born, with one member of staff, a rebuilt chicken shed, and a dog for company. Today we have around 60 staff, and sell the equivalent of 10 million cans per year. We’ve come a long way, but it’s still our vocation.
