Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through heavy legs and staining of the glass glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of dark chocolate, espresso-like roast, and heavy caramel sweetness. Prominent bourbon barrel notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and a hint of smoke. Dark sugar depth from muscovado provides a treacle-like quality, complemented by light plum and raisin esters.
Taste. An intense, complex mix of dark cocoa, toasted biscuit, and burnt sugar. The long boil creates layers of molasses and toffee that support the roasted malt bitterness. Bourbon character is well-integrated, providing vanilla and a light woody tannin. The finish is long and lingering with a bittersweet balance of dark fruit and charred grain.
