Brain Waves is a lush, modern Double IPA that showcases the vibrant synergy of Citra, Simcoe, and Strata hops. This collaboration between Vitamin Sea and Cerebral Brewing delivers a deep tropical bouquet of passion fruit and mango, grounded by classic Simcoe evergreen resin. The Citra provides a bright citrus backbone of grapefruit and tangerine zest, while Strata adds complex notes of cannabis and ripe strawberry. A soft, grainy malt base supports the intense hop saturation, leading to a smooth, medium-full body. Despite its 8% strength, the finish remains remarkably clean with a balanced, firm bitterness that underscores its high drinkability.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM) with a heavy, opaque haze. Features a dense, persistent white head that leaves thick, soapy lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits like passion fruit and mango alongside bright grapefruit. Distinctive layers of resinous pine and a hint of dank herbal notes are present. Malt is low and neutral, offering a slight cracker-like sweetness with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial punch of tropical fruit candy and tangerine pith. Citra brings lime and orange flavors, while Strata offers strawberry and a slight dank complexity. Simcoe provides a firm, woody, and piney bitterness that balances the soft malt sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and smooth with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth adds to the roundness without being solventy. Very low hop-derived astringency.
