Sparky is an American Stout that bridges the gap between traditional roast and modern decadence. A collaboration with Abyss, it features a saturated profile of cocoa husks and nibs that creates an intensely rich chocolate foundation. The addition of roasted coconut introduces a nutty, toasted complexity that melds seamlessly with the base beer’s coffee-like malt character. A subtle hint of vanilla enhances the perception of sweetness, smoothing out the aggressive bitterness typical of the style. Expect a velvet-like presence on the palate, where the resinous hop backbone provides a structured finish to the lush, dessert-forward flavors of cacao and tropical fruit.
Appearance. Jet black (SRM 40) with a dense, persistent tan head and excellent lacing. Completely opaque.
Aroma. High intensity aroma defined by bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee. Prominent toasted coconut notes are complemented by a sweet vanilla creaminess. Low resinous hop aroma and faint dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by dark, fudgy chocolate from the cocoa nibs. Mid-palate reveals roasted coffee and toasted coconut, with a subtle vanilla sweetness. Medium-high bitterness is present but softened by the adjuncts. Finishes medium-dry with lingering cacao and a light roasted grain character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, coating texture. Moderate carbonation provides a slight lift. Very light alcohol warmth. Smooth, with minimal roast-derived astringency.
