Villages Burrow
Porter 4.2 º
Villages Burrow is an inviting English Porter that balances classic comforting notes with a nuanced rye twist. A foundation of brown and chocolate malts creates a medium-roasty profile defined by cocoa and toast, while Red Crystal Rye introduces a unique savory, spicy bite. Ever-trusty Fuggles hops contribute mild woody and floral accents that weave through the malty core, grounding the beer in tradition. A delicate suggestion of old plum offers a subtle fruity complexity. At 4.2% ABV, this porter remains approachable and smooth, delivering a sessionable experience that transitions from bready sweetness to a clean, gently spicy finish.
Appearance. Deep brown to dark copper (25–30 SRM) with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights when held to the light. It features a moderate, creamy off-white to light tan head with fair retention and slight lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring bready and toasty malt notes with a clear chocolate roastiness. Mild woody and earthy hop character from the Fuggles is present, complemented by a light spicy-savory rye note and faint dark fruit esters reminiscent of plum.
Taste. Initial bready and toasty malt flavors lead into a moderate chocolate roastiness and subtle caramel sweetness. Low to moderate bitterness provides balance without being harsh. The hop character is floral and woody, while the Red Crystal Rye adds a distinctive peppery, savory spice. Low fruity esters add complexity, finishing fairly dry with a lingering note of roasted grain and spice.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, moderately creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, and there is no perceptible alcohol warmth, making it highly drinkable with no astringency from the dark malts.
