Vicaris Generaal presents a masterful take on the Belgian Dark Strong Ale, pouring a deep mahogany with a resilient, creamy beige head. The sensory journey begins with an inviting bouquet of freshly baked bread and toasted biscuits, layered with rich aromas of plum and dark grape. On the palate, it unfolds with a luxurious, velvety sweetness, echoing caramelized roasted malt and sophisticated Port wine nuances. Deep notes of sun-dried figs and raisins dominate the mid-palate, leading into a long, elegant finish. Despite its strength, the alcohol remains gracefully integrated, providing a smooth, warming sensation that complements the beer’s complex malt profile.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to reddish-brown (18-22 SRM). Features a huge, dense, and persistent creamy beige head with excellent lacing; liquid clarity is generally high.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex mix of rich, bready, and toasty malt character. Deep esters of plum, grape, and raisin are prominent, supported by a soft, perfumy alcohol presence and subtle hints of spicy phenols.

Taste. Rich and complex maltiness featuring caramel, biscuit, and toasted notes. The palate is dominated by dark fruit flavors of figs and raisins with a distinct Port wine-like depth. Bitterness is low to moderate, providing just enough balance against the malt sweetness. Finishes long and elegant, ranging from moderately sweet to a refined dryness.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. High carbonation provides a lively sensation without being sharp. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth provides a soothing, rounded feel.
