Caltrops is a focused Session American IPA that centers on the expressive sensory profile of Nelson Sauvin hops. This hop variety delivers a striking bouquet of crushed white wine grapes, tart gooseberry, and tropical passion fruit. These punchy aromatics are anchored by a lean, grainy malt foundation that allows the hop oils to remain the star of the show. Despite its sessionable 4.7% ABV, the beer maintains a firm, clean bitterness and a refreshing, dry finish. Appearance. Medium gold with a slight haze. Pours with a medium-sized, white head featuring good persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by Nelson Sauvin, exhibiting notes of white wine, gooseberry, and melon. Low grainy malt sweetness supports the hops. Clean fermentation profile with very low yeast esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with flavors of white wine grapes and tropical fruit. Low grainy maltiness provides a supportive backdrop for a medium-high bitterness. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering, hoppy aftertaste of tropical fruit and subtle resin.
